Houston eCig ShopNew research says that transitioning to e-cigarettes or vaping may reduce adolescent smoker’s risk fatal consequences from smoking-related health problems by as much as 21%. Considering smoking is presently estimated to be the cause of six million deaths worldwide annually, these results are significant.

What’s notable in this study is that it was not funded by the tobacco or e-cigarette industry. It was actually funded by the National Cancer Institute, the National Institute on Drug Abuse and the Cancer Intervention and Surveillance Modeling Network. In the study, adolescent smokers were referenced as anyone born after the year 1997. Dr. David Levy, professor of oncology, ensured that the study fixed on adolescents who vaped or smoked e-cigarettes regularly, not just once or twice. Because the results would differ from previous research, since participants were grouped together regardless of their experience with vaping or e-cigs.

These reports are in direct disagreement with public and government attitude. Especially following the FDA’s ruling to consider all vape and e-cig products as “tobacco products,” these studies will be exceptionally critical to reveal the facts about vaping.

This is not the only study or researcher that is in support of vaping/e-cig over traditional cigarette smoking. Medical leaders, such as Professor Munafo, have concluded that vaping gives of less harmful chemicals because tobacco smoke, found in cigarettes, is where harmful chemicals lie. These elements can cause brain damage and many other health consequences.

Although, Dr. Levy stresses a need for more long-term research on the health effects of vaping in adolescents, at the moment it seems to be a healthier alternative to traditional smoking. Studies in favor of vaping are increasingly being published, but the vaping industry is equally facing pushback from federal regulation.
