Return to Vaping Blog

electronic cigarettes collection isolated on whiteVaping is one of the hottest trends today. There are many different varieties of vaping supplies available. The heart of the e-cigarette, where the flavor is produced is the e-liquid.

There are several ingredients that make up the e-liquid. These include the base, flavor, and nicotine. The base is the main part of the e-liquid and is generally made up of two ingredients, propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG). Propylene glycol is a liquid that is often used as a flavoring carrier in foods, an ingredient in food coloring, and an additive to some medications. Vegetable glycerin is a thick, vegetable-based liquid. The thickness of the vegetable glycerin makes it difficult to use alone as a base for e-liquids. It is often mixed with the propylene glycol to create a smooth base for vaping.

E-liquid are available with or without nicotine. The nicotine levels can vary from 0mg up to 24mg. Manufacturers use food grade natural or artificial flavorings to create the various flavors in e-liquids. Tastes of an e-liquid can vary due to different manufacturing techniques. To ensure you don’t’ end up with large quantities of flavors you may not like, buy small batches of new flavors. There are a wide variety of flavors for e-liquids. The flavors can range from fruity such as strawberry to savory such as double fudge brownies. Some e-liquids can also come in flavors such as tobacco or menthol. There is also a caffeinated e-cigarette. According to Vape Magazine the three main ingredients in addition to the base in a caffeinated e-cigarette are ginseng, taurine, and guarana. The levels of caffeine can vary depending on the manufacturer. Generally there is about two milligrams of caffeine per e-cigarette.

E-liquids are light sensitive. To help ensure freshness the e-liquid should be kept in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Due to this fact, many brands come in colored bottles to reduce light exposure. Checking the expiration date and the manufacture date on the container can also help to make sure you get the freshest product possible. When the vapor that is being produced by your e-cigarette is reduced, it is generally time to refill the e-liquid cartridge. Although this may also happen when the battery is low. When changing flavors also change cartridges to reduce any possible carry-over tastes.

There are many ready-to-use e-liquids available, but making your own is also an option. For do-it-yourself e-liquids, buying quality products and having an expert walk you through the process will ensure a better result. The base mixture of propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin are not considered toxic substances. Nicotine can be considered a toxic substance and should be added to your e-liquid with caution.
